ABOUT THE CENTRE
Dhamma Āloka (which means 'light of Dhamma') was purchased in 1995 after years of searching for a site.
The property is at Woori Yallock ('running stream' in the local Aboriginal language), one hour's drive east of Melbourne and only ten kilometres from the renowned Healesville wildlife sanctuary.
LOCAL AREA
The centre is on a hill which adjoins a reserve on the banks of the Yarra River, with an outlook across lush river flats towards mountain ranges. The eighteen acre site has a three-bedroom house, and new buildings include a hall for fifty people, accommodation blocks and bathrooms. It is mostly cleared with a fringe of ti-tree and eucalypt forest. The impression is one of seclusion and tranquillity.
FACILITIES
Facilities at the centre include a warm and comfortable meditation hall, kitchen, office, dining rooms and individual student accommodation blocks, as well as server accommodation.
CENTRE MANAGEMENT
The Vipassana Centre Victoria is a non-profit charity and is managed by a board (known as the Trust), the members of which are experienced students appointed by the centre teacher for a term of up to two years. All who serve at the centre are volunteers who have experienced the benefits of practising Vipassana meditation and wish to help others to do so.
NON-CENTRE COURSES
From time to time ten day non-centre courses are held at locations outside of centres as they are arranged by local students of Vipassana in those areas. An alphabetical list of worldwide course locations is available as well as a graphical interface of course locations worldwide and in India and Nepal.
OTHER LANGUAGES
Information on Vipassana meditation courses is also available in the other languages. Click on the globe on the top right of the international Vipassana meditation page to select a language.
